I was born in the early '70s and as a small child my family owned a small corner store in Calgary, Alberta. Before I started school I would sit in the store and "help" my mother and grandparents - my favorite part was watching them make up little brown bags of the penny candies. We sold Black Cat gum and I remember chewing it many times. I'm not a fan of black licorice but this gum was amazing - the taste; the texture - so wonderful! Even the wrapper was cool! I remember after I started school I would keep a piece in my pocket all day so that I could chew it on my way home. Sure wish they would make it again. Years ago there was a somewhat comparable gum called Black Bart but I haven't seen it around in years either.
