Found from another source that Bit O Honey goes back to 1924, made by Schutter, in plants in Chicago and St. Louis. Picked up a 1948 Archie comic book with a combined ad for Bit O Honey and another candy bar, Old Nick (rival to Mars Milky Way). Found TV commercial for Bit O Honey and Bit O Peanut Butter bars. A guitar-strumming singer (looks like Bobby Vee) does a musical pitch for several teens at a (California) beach. This aired on Dick Clark's daytime "Where the Action Is" music montage over ABC (11/2/66). Candy bars still carried Schutter brand (acquired by Ward Candies in 1969, later in the 1980s by Nestle.
