I too miss the Baffle Bar. My memory is that it was chocolate fudge with tiny bits of nuts, a layer of (orange?) jelly on top, and a chocolate covering. It had a silver wrapper like the one they still use on the U-No Bar. When I was a kid in San Jose, CA, back in the late 50's and early 60's, they were my favorite and the U-No Bar was my mother's favorite -- so they both must go back to the 40's at least. I still buy U-No's when I can find them (I like the unique texture), but I'd be delighted to have a Baffle Bar again. Tim C's explanation of why they disappeared makes sense. But if I were a candy maker, I'd buy the recipe for the Baffle Bar and make something upscale -- e.g., truffles -- with the nut fudge and a layer of jelly. People will pay more for those than they will for a candy bar. (Are you listening, See's Candy??)
