There is so much misinformation here, it's laughable. Bac-O's were hardly a "food of the 70s" -- they were produced until 2015. The ingredient list was hardly "full of words that would tongue-tie a scientist" -- here's the complete list of ingredients: Soy Flour Vegetable Oil Salt Natural and Artificial Flavor Water Sugar Caramel Color Red 40 Tocopherol The only real "chemical" in there is the Red 40, which is food coloring. "Tocopherol" is natural vitamin E. None of the ingredients in Bac-O's have ever been found to be "carcinogenic". Bac-O's were discontinued simply because sales were down, and the manufacturer (Betty Crocker division of General Mills) felt that it was time to move on to other products. You can still buy McCormick "Bac'n Pieces" which are made from ingredients virtually identical to those used in Bac-O's.
