The Baby Ruth Ice Cream Bars first came out around 1978. This was prior to the acquisition by RJR Nabisco, and still a Curtiss (Standard Brands) product. Curtiss created Baby Ruth around 1920, named, unofficially (and without paying royalties to) Babe Ruth. The original Curtiss plant was on Chicago's west side, on Addison near Cicero Av. Its official mailing address was eight miles to the east, a post office box in the 13 zone (60613 zip, Wrigleyville area). In 1964, Standard Brands bought Curtiss, and moved production to a new facility in suburban Franklin Park. The Curtiss brand remained on Baby Ruth and Butterfinger (since 1931) labels until the Nestle takeover around 1990.
