Found in the 1979 Park High School (Racine, WI) yearbook a photo ad showing the outdoor service windows, the last before the place became J&W. Originally, the building had a small interior dining area through the 1950s, into early sixties. Apparently, the city's fire code, along with higher liability insurance premiums, led to A&W closing it and using it for storage and refrigerators/freezers. An ad from 1966 indicated outdoor-only service, and closed November to March.
