Description
Willy Wonka Candies used to make Oompas - shaped like a giant "M&M" with a candy shell but with an unusual half chocolate/half peanut butter filling - the top half was chocolate, while the bottom was peanut butter, a bit softer and sweeter than the consistency of a Reese's Pieces. Each one was about the diameter of a quarter, bulged in the middle like a "flying saucer." Today, Wonka makes a different fruit-flavored candy called Ooompas - they probably think no one remembers the original kind!

I DO remember, fondly, the 1/2 chocolate, 1/2 peanut butter Oompas of the 70's! I loved them. We had a penny candy store in my neighborhood when I was little. It had all the cool 70's candies. Another uncommon candy was called the "slapstick". Remember those? It was a flat, rectangle soft caramel "lollipop" with pink, white and yellow swirls of sweet "nougat" in the middle. YUM! Miss those!

I loved the 70's oompas. A good substitute is the Peanut Butter M and M's (orange bag). They are pretty close- just not as big as the old OOmpas. Enjoy!
Tim - March 24, 2009 - Report this comment
The best part of the old Oompas was when they got warm in summer. They got all oily (not necessarily a good thing, admittedly) and they became soft enough that they would pop in your mouth with an explosion of flavor. Yummmmmm...

OH I LOVED the original OOMPAS!!!! I would give my life savings for some original PB oompas!
Bridget - April 27, 2009 - Report this comment
My sister and I loved the original Oompas and wish that Willy Wonka Candies would make them again. It is funny, not too many people remember them but they were delicious.
gracemarie - April 28, 2009 - Report this comment
I see that my sister Bridget commented too! Bring back the peanut butter Oompas!!! The memories that Bridget and I have are priceless and are dear to my heart. We would fight over the last one!!! But then say "let's get somemore". Thanks for the memories. We really would love to be able to make more.

When I was in middle school my friend Anne and I used to sneak off of school grounds and go up the hill to the bowling alley or the store to buy candy. Oompas were my absolute favorite. I so wish I could find them again!!!

These were actually also around in the 80's. My Dad got a tip from a customer who happened to be in the candy industry, and it was a motherlode of stuff that was not distributed where we lived, including the original Oompas.

If anyone has any old wrappers from the original Wonka Oompas candy, PLEASE contact me as I would pay good cash for some of these old Wonka wrappers...!

I called Nestle and got a hold of the Willy Wonka line and asked the why they were discontinued...and she put me on hold and then told me that she couldn't give me an exact answer and apologized...and then see told that she will let the company know that someone was looking for them and I was like yeah there are tons of people on the internet looking for them, and then she said that I will be getting coupons for Wonka candy in the mail. So call this number and ask about them maybe if enough people call they will make them again! 1(800)225-2270

My friend and I loved the oompas so much we wrote the company and told them how much we liked them. They sent a letter of appreciation and made us a honorary member of the willy Wonka club. We were delighted

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE PB OOMPAS! They had a little more sweet & salty flavor than the PB M&Ms. Wish they still made them - but probably a good thing they don't - so I don't gain 30 lbs!

About a year ago, a customer came in with a box of Toffifee. I tripped! If those were available, then there must be somewhere of finding Oompa's ! So I found out where he got the Toffifee, thinking Oompa's might be there as well. Not so much! Looked everywhere except the net...until today. Nestle, please introduce Oompa's to the new generation & appease the ones who grew up with them. Oompa's trump all other PB & chocolate candy on the market, past & present. Not hard to market the best. Just sayin'

I sooo loved WW Oompas, the chocolate and peanutbutter ones. I also used to get the Scrunch bars and chocolate milk and have a chocolate fest pigout. Those were the grand old days, lol.

Oh Yes, I remember these, probably the reason I was overweight but I remember spending all my lunch money to buy just these candies. They really need to bring them back, PB M&M's just don't cut it. The Oompa's had a distinctive taste that just can't be beat. BRING THEM BACK, WILLIE.....

For 30 years I have thought maybe they were only sold out of the US. We got them in Greece when we were stationed there with the usaf. Haven't seen them since. If the topic of favorites comes up I mention them and NOBODY has ever known what I am talking about. So glad to see US folks had them too. Mid 70's was when I enjoyed them...Yes they were a favorite of mine. Nothing else is close to me with the combination. Maybe someone should copy this link and send it to the company. :} Thanks for the memories. Another thing I miss is the big flat hard charms suckers (not round pops). 2 of those babies lasted an entire movie!

I can remember it like yesterday...walking to the corner store and buying Oompas - only the most amazing candy that ever existed. I'd buy them, stuff the bag in my pocket and then go home and listen to the Carpenters on my record player!! Childhood bliss!!

I believe Hershy bought the name and product out to eliminate the competion with Reeses and Reeses Peices took off when ET blew sales through the roof. I loved the Oompas as well.

I was hoping that I would find a site that would tell me where I could buy the original Oompas. I loved them, hardly anyone knows what I'm talking about when I descibe them. They should really make them again, they were the best!

you are right. There was no better candy than Oompas. I miss them and have told my kids that they have no idea what a fantastic taste they had. I wish they still made them or would bring them back. Oh fond memories!

O MY OOMPAS, It wasn't just something I dreamed, I really did eat the most divine candy ever made, the loompas Oompas. I Miss them so much, when M&M's came out with their peanut butter filled candy's, I was so hoping they tasted like Oompas, but I walked away disappointed. History always seems to repeat itself, the 70's Bell Bottoms made their appearance, and the 80's styles are now making theirs. It is way past due for the OOmpas Loompas to make their return. Wonka is the only one that can satisfy our cravings. Please let Oompas make it's come back!!! A loyal Oompas lover

Ok, I had to comment...I DID do a search for the exquisite, elusive Oompas of the 70s...and it did bring me to you. There has never been another Oompa, and it's so frustrating! Look at how many "old fashioned" candies and gums *are* attainable at plenty of stores these days. Bring back the Oompas of my youth!! It's time!!!

I use to get the oompas when we would go to new York state (as they weren't available in Canada. I have recently tried the peanut butter m&m's and while I like them better than Reese's pieces I agree they are not the same. I guess we can only hope and contact Nestlé.

I also loved the peanut butter and chocolate oompas. I do remember that they were produced later by either Lance or Toms. Not sure what the name was but it was the same product. BRING THEM BACK.

My friends and I used to make a game of guessing which side the peanut butter would be on when we bit into the Oompas..top or bottom. I loved those candies. They need to bring them back!!!

So good to see some of my peers who remember PB Oompas! Like so many of you said, I get strange looks and rolled when I mention them....everyone thinks I dreamed them up! If I had, you can bet I'd still be making them!!! They are still my all time favorite candy....

Boy I do remember the original oompas. Used to get them when I would go to the movies. Likes trying to bite them in half long ways to try and get right between the peanut butter and chocolate. Several years ago when my kids came home with a pack of the new oompas I was thinking "sweet, I love those" I was sadly disapointed

BRING BACK THE OOMPAS! I'm turning 50 in November and wanted to give them as party favors since they were my all-time favorite. I remember my devastation back then when they were discontinued and I still can't bring myself to eat Reeses Pieces out of loyalty. At least I can find my beloved ZOTZ and squirrel nuts.

Warning!!! Highly addictive Oompas candy!! What ever chemicals they put in these things were damn good...!!! The best candy ever made...!!! I along with a lot of other people are here singing the praises of these little sugar balls of fun... Long live the choco/peanut butter OOMPAS... If they reproduce these it could help the economy... Just throwing it out there folks...??

Ladies and gentlemen,I called the number that was posted on here 1(800)225-2270 and it is indeed the number for Nestle as well as Wonka Candies...I urge you all too please call them and ask them too bring this delicious candy treat back. Unfortunately the guy that answered the phone was an 80's baby and thought i was talkin about the fruity Oompas(which sucked lol)...I begged him too please go online and have a look at this forum and see how many folks really miss the PB Oompas....So with that said, who knows what can happen if Wonka phone lines start going through the roof from folks like us who not only love, but deserve too have these beautiful peices of chocolate and peanut butter heaven grace our mouths once again....PB Oompas Lover 4 Life...BRING EM BACK!

I plan to call that number, because as a child, the OOMPAS that were half peanut butter and half chocolate were the best candies in the world! It made me feel like I had actually visited the candy factory!

I SO miss the original p.b. Oompas! I'd pay a very pretty penny for some now! If they were re-introduced on the market, I guarantee they'd sell like mad! My hubby said, "Just get Reese's pieces!" Yes, I slapped him on behalf of us all here, hahaha!

Bring back the oompas. I don't think that the chocolate in regular m & ms tastes that good. oompas tasted better.
Brad - October 21, 2016 - Report this comment
Oopmas must be brought back. They were soooo very good and huge like small planets. I can't think of a single reason why they shouldn't bring them back to stores. Would be a great seller. Even M&M's have a new chocolate covered peanut butter candy. Nothing like the original Oompas but there is something out there on the market right now.

I was 9 in 1971 when first we saw Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. I own a copy of the movie and watch it EVERY Easter Sunday. I was so delighted when they came out with peanut butter OOMPA's. It was my favorite. And yes peanut butter M&M's are good, they are not the same as my beloved OOMPA's. How cool would it be if they were available as a limited edition every Easter!

I was a kid in the 1970’s who was totally in love with the peanut butter and chocolate Oompas!! I would ride my pony or my bike to the small general store in our little town just to get a package of those yummies. I agree that they were especially delicious when they got kinda melted, but their taste was one of a kind no matter how you ate them! No candy today comes even close! PLEASE BRING OOMPA’S BACK! They’re guaranteed to be a huge hit!
