Description
Tang also came in grapefruit for awhile, as well as grape and orange, and NOBODY remembers it besides my family. We had Tang all the time, but especially on long family road trips, when my mom would bring breakfast and lunch food along (before all the motels had complimentary continental breakfast) to save money. I have very distinct memories of blearily knocking back a quick glass of Tang du jour in the motel room before hitting the road again in the station wagon.

I remember Grapefruit TANG. I wonder why it isn't around anymore. I also remember eating a "fudge" made from orange TANG...

I remember Grapefruit Tang. I took it to college with me. When I was studying at night, I would go out to the water fountain, get a glass of water and make myself a glass of Grapefruit Tang. I loved it. I wish they still made it.

I remember Grape tang, and enjoyed it. I remember the glass jar once had a plastic space buggy attached to the side as a giveaway. Thanks for the memories.

mommyof2girls if you still have the sample package of grapefruit I would love to buy it from you! It is kind of a joke with my new father-in-law who loved it and I have looked everywhere for it. =)

My parents would sit around the pool at the beach drinking something called sunstrokes, that had Tang Grapefruit, vodka, and more. We used to get in to their stash and it was delicious!!!

Grapefruit tang is still available for sale in Argentina. We bought a bunch of packets on a recent trip. However, we have visited more than 100 countries, and it is available nowhere else.

Anyone by chance remember a tang package that had a NASA moon landing vehicle attached to it in the seventies. I would like to get one
Rob Lambert - August 18, 2012 - Report this comment
Responding to comment by Shadows: It was a small, plastic toy replica of the Eagle landing craft., which was shrink-wrapped to jars of Tang mix. This was available for a short time in the fall of 1969. General Foods capitalized on the moon landing craze in several forms, including TV commercials featuring a dance called "Do The Moonwalk," which was sung by Ron Dante of Archies fame. These ads were on Saturday morning kid shows mainly in 1970. Finding one of the mini toy landing craft in good shape may be hard...they were made from cheap plastic, and somewhat delicate.

I've always believed that either the sugar or grapefruit lobbies(et. al.) quashed their production($$$s).768

My family liked grapefruit Tang as a cold remedy. If you drank it hot and a bit more concentrated than usual, it would clean out your sinuses and your throat. A good bite to it. Grape Tang was another favorite.

I used all 3 flavors of Tang and at one time, they came in a glass canister with a plastic lined lid. I still have 2 of them that I use for Qtips and cotton balls. I miss the grapefruit flavor and wish it would make a comeback.

I kept hearing the commercial saying that Grapefruit Tang had a "real fresh taste". It just sounded so good that I begged my mom to get it. When she finally got it I realized it tasted just like grapefruit and I hated it. Bleah! Now I like grapefruit and wish gft was back

I have been on the phone with the people who have thE rights to sell it. No grapefruit tang anymore. Grape, fruit punch and orange still available. I didn't think to ask where since I wanted the grapefruit for the sunstroke drink.

Lisa W.: I found the video in Lind's catalog. It is: Saturday Morning Cartoons Tape #44. This has Heckle & Jeckle Show with Tang Moonwalk ad. Rest of video has: Casper Cartoon Show (11/2/63, ABC) with commercials. Also, Underdog (10/23/65, NBC) with commercials. Finally, George of the Jungle from 1967 (no commercials). Lind groups his videos this way. With Hollis, you can customize, mix or match. If you contact Lind, mention the video titled Saturday Morning Cartoons #44. He'll let you know cost of video, and shipping (should be about $25 to $30 total).

During the 1970s it was the preferred drink mix to take on river float trips on wilderness rivers of Idaho and Montana; my dad, who was diabetic, used it as it had less sugar than other flavors.

The only place I saw "Grapefruit Flavored Tang" was while on vacation in the Bahamas in 1977.It was never available in the U.S., to my knowledge and came in a glass jar. It was so delicious and tasted more like fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice than the orange flavor ever did. It is no longer available, never caught on and I wonder why ?

I loved grapefruit Tang! When I was pregnant with my first child, I craved grapefruit ice cream! I mixed grapefruit Tang with vanilla ice cream several times a day for months - it was awesome! We had orange Tang all the time when growing up. We camped a lot, and it was perfect for that. My little brother loved that he drank the same thing as astronauts too. We lived in St. Louis, MO and grapefruit flavor was widely available in the area for at least several years. I was pregnant in 1972-1973.

I LOVED grapefruit tang. I don't know why they discontinued it. It actually replicated the taste of grapefruit better than regular tang tasted orange.
