I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE Rice Fries!!! I'm surprised that it hasn't come back, they were probably healthier than regular fries. I've looked everywhere online and haven't found any...but I'll keep hoping!

Uncle Ben's made them. Great taste. They lasted one, maybe two years tops, then poof! Gone from the freezer cases.

My sister & I LOVED these. I seem to remember three flavors. I'm thinking one was cheddar and another was butter & herb but I'm not sure of the third one.

They sell these at the A&W's in Japan and Okinawa. Loved these. They used to think I was crazy when I went in and ordered 3 or 4 large fries and 2 large root beers. Wish they would bring them back here in the states.

I thought I was the only one who heard of them. I had them when I lived in the Chicago area. I think the front of the bag said RICE FRIES with one word red and the other blue. Me and my bro loved them so much that when my mom made them, she had to evenly divide them up between us. There is a product called rice fries now that is made from rice flour. That is not what I assume the rest of you were talking about either! I want the REAL rice fries!

Rice Fries were da bomb!!! I can still remember their flavor, texture and how good they were! Why oh why did they stop making them?? I too look in the freezer section just hoping someone out there decided to bring back this awesome, good-for-you food!! Step up Uncle Ben!! We want our Rice Fries Back!

I remember Rice Fries, Mom made them quite often, I remember she used to call them either Uncle Sam Fries or Yankee Doodle Fries, maybe because of the Red White and Blue package.

I also remember a frozen plastic bag of rice with what I think was spinach and was very tasty. It was already cooked, but we would have to put the plastic bag in a pot of boiling water on the stove for some minutes before it could be eaten. My sisters and I would buy so many of them, they were so GOOD. Then they disappeared. I was reminding my sisters about it just last week and decided to Google to see whatever happened and am seeing all these stories. Honestly, I cant remember the name. I just wish they WOULD come back.

Back in the early 80's "Rice Fries" , now it is 2012...and I Still look for them. The were the BEST FRIES in the World!!!

The rice fries at The Submarine in Woodfield mall in Schaumburg Il were the greatest thing since sliced bread. I believe that Simplot made them. Please bring them back.

They were by American (something) - I FOUND the recipe on the internet about 15 years ago and have it somewhere; it started with "boil 20 lbs of white rice with ??? water and ??? milk and ???butter and salt for - like - 45 minutes... I wish I could find it again!! Of course, I never made it, but the recipe was direct from the company.

I worked for a subsidiary of the company that made American Rice Fries in the mid 1970s. It was headquartered in Chicago. They also pioneered the original hot pocket sandwich. We sold them from a mobile pizza truck service that I worked for. The fries were awesome!

We lived a hour away from the Twin Cities during the 70s and always were a test market for McDonalds (McRibs),and for the rice fries. I still look for them in the freezer aisle. Maybe someday.

You know, like all of you, I loved those delicious rice fries. But instead of reminiscing about the past, we should all be Petitioning Orieda, Uncle Bens and any other Company that would consider re-introducing rice fries to the marketplace. Here's a recipe that I think comes close • 1 and ½ cups short-grain sushi rice • 3 cups water • 2 tablespoons mirin • 1 and ½ tablespoons rice-wine vinegar • 1 tablespoon salt • Rice flour (for coating fries) • Oil for frying Combine sushi rice, mirin, rice-wine vinegar, and 1 tablespoon salt in a medium saucepan with 3 cups of water and bring to a boil. Cover with a lid wrapped in a damp cloth and reduce to a simmer. Cook for 20 minutes or until done. Remove from the heat and let sit for 15 minutes. Line an 8-by-8-inch baking dish with plastic wrap. Firmly press the rice into the pan, using a potato masher dipped in cold water. Refrigerate until set, preferably overnight, but at least a couple hours. Remove the rice from the pan and, using a chef’s knife dipped in hot water to prevent sticking, cut into fry shapes—roughly ½ inch-by 4 ½-inch rectangles. Heat oil in a pan deep enough to just about cover the rectangles. Allow oil temperature to reach 350°F. Place rice flour on a plate, then dredge the rice rectangles in the flour and transfer to the oil, being careful not to crowd the pan. Cook until golden and crispy, about 5 minutes total, turning once; transfer to paper towels and season with salt. Repeat with more batches, depending on the size of your pan.

These were great! There was Uncle Ben & then a little later, some generic brand. Uncle Ben had one onion flavored. Around for a couple of years, then disappeared for while. then reappeared for a short time. Sure would buy them if I come find them... KIMI - I REMEMBER A MALT FLAVORED FROZEN TREAT CALLED “RADAR SHAKES” You bought them at convenience stores & gas stations. They were frozen like a rock & had to be zapped in the’Radar Rsnge’ (old term for microwave) to be soft enough to eat. They were great.

I was craving these the other day from my childhood. They were AMAZING, simply the BEST FRIES EVER!!! SO YUMMY!!! I could eat them by the plateful!!! I'd sign petition to bring them back, bring it on!
