Description
Pizza Spins might have been the Bugles Corn Crisps side kick. At least I remember that the 2 boxes were always side by side at the IGA grocery store. These were round, pizza-flavored crisps. They looked like a wheel with spokes or like a round pizza with slices cut out.

Who made these things? I loved these as a child. Can we find the owners to see if they still make the pizza spins?
C Lynn - March 06, 2008 - Report this comment
Yes, Pizza spins DID exist!! I remember them fondly! I thought they were the best snack ever when I was little. Not sure who made them. Maybe Nabisco.

I remember Pizza Spins. My Grandfather always had them at his house for me. Probably the late 60's or early 70's. I actually e-mailed the company (General Mills) about them a couple of years ago... no go on the re-make.
Rob - April 05, 2008 - Report this comment
Yes!! Validation! Few people seem to remember them, but Pizza Spins were my favorite snack to eat while watching U.F.O. and Space 1999 on my portable, red-plastic, black-n-white TV!!!!

Out of the blue the other day, I remembered Pizza Spins. Anyone know what company made them? Maybe we can bring them back. I loved 'em. I miss them... I WANT THEM!

My grandmother and I used to eat these ALL the time while watching the Flip Wilson Show and Laugh-In. They were around in the late 60s and early 70s, and then disappeared. Heard Chex Mix pizza flavor tastes just like them, but haven't tried it yet!

O my God YES. I loved those. PLEASE...let's start a petition to bring them back!!!!

Wow - this is great - we used to buy them at the IGA near my grandmother's house on the cape during summer visits - not many folks seem to remember them but they were the snack food BOMB! I remember feeling totally crestfallen when finally one summer they vanished, and all there was left were some boxes of Bugles on the shelf...
WC - July 14, 2008 - Report this comment
Yes, I remember this General Mills snack very fondly! That had a great spicy Pizza flavor to them. I will send copy of all these comments to General Foods and see if we can change their minds about REintroduction. I bet 1000's remember these and would BUY them again - if they were the same taste. Please everyone - Leave more comments....

By the way, Pizza Spins came out about 1968 (taken off market - 1975). Bugles, Whistles & Dasies were all introduced together in: April 1966. Dasies were the first to bite the dust, then Whistles. Bugles, of course are still with us! >Pizza-licious PRINGLES are the closest thing currently available to Pizza Spins...

WHAT CAN I SAY THAT YA'LL HAVEN'T ALREADY THEY WERE AWESOME.I MEAN THINK ABOUT IT ALL THESE PEOPLE REMEMBER A SNACK FOOD AND THE OUTSTANDING FLAVOR FROM 30 YEARS AGO, THAT SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT WHAT AN IMPRESSION THEY MADE THEN AND WOULD AGAIN IF REINTRODUCED, COME ON GENERAL MILLS GIVE IT A CHANCE !!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I loved those. Haven't had them since I was a child but still miss the flavor. I can't think of a pizza snack that even comes close, or is as good (from what I remember). If General Mills were to bring them back, I hope they make them exactly the same.
gail - September 13, 2008 - Report this comment
I can't believe how many people actually remember these. The only two snacks that even come close are Bugles Nacho Flavor and Pepperidge Farms Pizza Flavored Goldfish crackers. I will definitely email General Mills to revive this awesome snack.
YooHoo - September 25, 2008 - Report this comment
I can still taste these in my mind even tho I last had them at age 9. These really left a HUGE impression. And I recall that dark green box. I have craved them thru the years since. I would buy them if they came back - I'd break my "no junk food" rule.
dave - September 28, 2008 - Report this comment
thry used to be my favorite along with the original taco flavored doritos. I used to eat them while watching love american style, lost in space and name of the game. I can't believe general mills took them off the shelf.

OK..OK..I tried a new (well, to me) cracker from Nabisco. A co-worker gave me some of her Wheat-thins Sun-dried Tomato and Basil. I flashed back to the 70's and those wonderful Pizza Spins! If you want to get a pretty close version, try these Wheat-thins!!! I told my husband about them but he wasn't sure if he remembered them or not. I grew up in central Illinois and I loved them!!! Why did they quit making them when all of us loved them so much? I remember the box and the foil lining! Try these Wheat-thins, though, until General Mills gets wise!

I use to eat a box at a time. Greatest junk food on earth.
Laura - November 30, 2008 - Report this comment
Oh hells yeah, I remember Pizza Spins. I didn't actually remember the name, but I can picture them in my mind and I remember the taste very clearly. They were so far superior to Bugles it's not even funny. Why would they ditch those and keep Bugles? That is all kinds of wrong. The only thing I have ever had since them that came close was an Israeli snack called Bisli that comes in a pizza flavor.
Liz - January 14, 2009 - Report this comment
They were yummy!! Wish I could have some now.

I can't believe I found you guys! Pizza Spins were my FAVORITE and I do remember them next to Bugles in the Red Owl grocery store here in St. Paul, MN. Were they shaped like an old west wagon wheel with spokes? I'm 46, miss them and want them back! Hey, anyone remember the cereal Ka-Boom, shaped like clown faces?
Cari - January 23, 2009 - Report this comment
I loved Pizza Spins and would buy them in bulk if they came back. I also grew up in Minnesota and remember them in the Red Owl.

Count me in! I think about them often. I'm 45 and grew up in North Dakota. Forgot about the Red Owl but have been unable to forget pizza spins. The Pizzalicious Pringles are the closest thing I've found but I will definitely try the other recommendations. I will start a group on facebook if I can figure out how.

Another snack that reminds me of pizza spins called Clancy's Nacho Rings. Unlike Bissli, which is expensive to get here in the US, Nacho Rings are available at the low-price store Aldi for slightly more than $1 for a 7 ounce bag. They are corn-based, a little more "airy" than Pizza Spins. The nacho flavor is tastes more like pizza spins than nacho, in my opinion. I just imagine I'm eating Pizza Spins when I have them.

My sister and I used to go to Grandma's for the weekend..every Saturday she's make a Chef Boyardee pizza, and serve it with Pizza Spins & Chocolate milk on TV trays for supper, and we'd watch Lost In Space. The best of times ever.

I grew up in White Bear Lake MN, and you all are my long lost brothers and sisters! I LOVED this snack, and would go with my father to the local Red Owl or Applebaum's grocery stores on Saturday mornings. I would eat the whole box watching cartoons and finish it off before noon. They were so good my kids can taste them when I talk about it.
Andrew - April 17, 2009 - Report this comment
We used to get this snack every now and then. They were my hands down favorite. If you're looking for a similar taste, I just discovered the Fisher Pizza Balls (Real Cheese Flavor) is fairly reminiscent.

I loved Pizza Spins too! I wrote to General Mills a few years back about making them again and they said no. I used to eat a whole box on Friday nights while watching "Fantasmic Features" here in the Boston area. I wash it back with some Orange Crush. They were the best and always will be. I am 55 and can still taste them. Bring them back and no one will get hurt - haha!

She is only 24 and I read on here they were discontinued 34 years ago. Now I feel really old! I also would love to see Pizza spins come back. They were so darned good !!!! I have a brother that works at General Mills. I'll see if he can put a good word in for us old timers that love Pizza Spins !!!! LOL

I was beginning to think NO one would remember Pizza Spins. I had the name wrong, calling them Pizza Wheels. But I TOTALLY remember Bugels being right by them on the shelf. LOVED those things.
David - August 02, 2009 - Report this comment
Pizza Spins were definitely a great snack and the best of that particular line of snacks from that era. They were also available and popular in the South. Hey, in this economy, if General Mills wants to be cocky and not respond to obvious interest, let them go for it! Maybe the recession hasn't reached them.

No one believes me that these did indeed exist. The 4 boxes were green for Pizza Spins, blue for Whistles, yellow for Daisies, and of course red for Bugles. I loved 'em all. However in this day and age of money money money they will never bring them back. General Mills unfortunately is probably run by someone too young to care about these real pieces of American history and nostalgia.

Yes! I remember these Pizza Spins. My cousins always had them (along with Bugles) at their house but my Mom never bought them. The Pepperidge Farm Pepperoni flavored Gold Fish taste similar. BTW, does anyone remember Chipos?

Of the three snacks, Daisies were my favorite, and I could swear they were in a bright green box and the Pizza Spins were in a red box. Bugles were my least favorite, so, of course they are still available. Is this democracy????!!!

Haven't thought of Pizza Spins in years(which I, like an earlier commenter, thought were called "pizza wheels"). I tried the new Townhouse italian herb flatbread crackers and WHAM! Instant flashback. A good substitute for your Pizza Spin cravings until GM is convinced to bring them back.

Pizza Spins were definitly the best of the General Mills snack family. I never tried Daisies, I don't think they were available in Canada, but I remember Whistles. Pizza Spins if my memory serves me would probably have been oat based like Cheerios. The flavouring was superior, I mean I can still remember them after 40 years!! It boggles the mind that Bugles, the greasiest of them all remains. I guess they must be cheap to make.

We are sorry you encountered so much difficulty in attempting to find the product you were looking for. Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued and is no longer available. While many of our consumers did enjoy this product, it wasn′t as successful as we had anticipated. We regret any inconvenience this caused and hope you continue to enjoy the many other products we offer. I too have fond memories of early childhood at my grandparetnts house eating pizza spins... It was probably the first snack food that I was introduced to at the early age that I was. I wonder if the flavor was really that good as we all seem to remember though or if the nastalgia makes the sensation heightened though. I have found that sometimes memories of a taste or smell get exagerated over time and we build it up like telling a tale seems to grow. I just remember that those were the greatest flavor that I can remember, but I wonder if it is associated with my grandparents that makes it so desirable? I wish I had some to experiment and see the comparison...

General Mills brought out Pizza Spins, Daisies, Cheese Whistles, and Bugles all around the late 60's. I remember Bert Lahr doing their commercials when they first came out. My favorite was Pizza Spins, then Cheese Whistles. I never thought Daisies nor Bugles were that great. It's too bad my favorites fell by the wayside. There has never been a more tastier pizza flavored snack than Pizza Spins. Whistles as well were one of the tastiest cheese snacks ever. What was General Mills thinking when they stopped making them, but kept Bugles?!?!?!?

Pizza Spins were the first indication that I had of the truism - "Everything that I like in stores goes away!" Where are the snack crackers of that time? I remeber ther being a large selection of chip alternatives back then. I went into the US Army in October of '74, could not find Pizza Spins in the PX's on post at Fort Knox, was transferred to my permanent duty station in Germany the beginning of '75- still no luck. Then ran into one box at a PX in a training area of Hohenfels Germany. I was ecstatic! But someone had opened the box & munched about half, then put it back on the shelf! That was the last box of Pizza Spins I ever saw.

General Mills obviously doesn't listen to consumers, so why bother contacting them? The consumer services rep stated about Pizza Spins, "it wasn′t as successful as we had anticipated." Yet the product was around for 8 years or so! If it was so unsuccessful, why not discontinue the product much, much sooner? They're a bunch of nitwits with Pizza Spins for brains -- most of whom have probably never even tried them. And they probably lost the receipe. They are the best snack food. Ever.

I remember eating Pizza Spins as a child, they were the best bar none. I tell my wife when we are at the store that I am going to the snake Isle to look for Pizza Spins, She just rolls her eyes. Well, it's wishfull thinking they might be on the shelf again some day, I'm still going to look for them in the snake isle, I sure miss them.

Now I'm 52 - 4 kids and none of them had the pleasure to taste these treats! How can it be we all remember these things? That is so bizarre...hmmm...bring them back General Mills - fats, salt, and whatever all else was in them!

I can't understand why General Mills, or whoever owns the rights, doesn't bring some of these back, even if only for a limited time. I'd buy a bunch of boxes of Pizza Spins and a lot of other junk foods from my childhood, given the chance, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would!

I am constantly looking for anything close to my long gone beloved Pizza Spins - I remember them at my grandparents house - Bugles red box and Pizza Spins in green. Today I was getting snacks for the football game and I came across TGIFriday's Pizza Chips - pretty darn close! Crunchy, pizza-y, salty. Worth a short for all of us who long for our Pizza Spins - I bought them, of all places - at the Dollar Store (Dollar Tree)!

I loved Pizza Spins. Had to share with siblings... but I was used to that. Very sad when they disappeared from the shelves of the store. I have never found their equal, although someone said that the kid's Chex Mix pizza is good. I'll try it. Not too hopeful.

Please Bring them Back. I went thru them a box at a time from H.S. thru college. Couldn't eat just a half box, had to finish it. Also I agree with a previous poster that it was an extra treat to find lumps of pizza flavoring in the box. True heaven.

Along with the rest of you, I love these treats growing up. Can still taste them, just like you can. Occasionally I run across a snack with a similar flavor, but nothing replaces them. Perhaps GM could bring them back as a seasonal item like those halloween cereals that were written about in the Wall Street Journal last week! We could all stock up for each year! Somebody in Marketing...go get a job at GM and sell this proposal!

Seems that most of us on this board are in our 40s/50s and remember Pizza Spins from childhood. If General Mills says they weren't profitable back then, it was probably because, as children, we had no income. Now that we are (much) older we could buy them for ourselves, with lots of profit for General Mills, if they were made available.

My Aunt had a box of Pizza Spins, in 1969 or 1970, around that time. They were very delicieux! There is a snack available (at BIG LOTS) that, to me, tastes very similar to the Pizza Spins, and it's "Herr's DEEP DISH PIZZA Cheese Curls". They are very CLOSE. :-9

Pizza "wheels" spins. Wow! Just out of the blue tonight, the ole' spin craving hit me! Got curious and wondered about their demize. Found this posting. I just turned 47. I can remember watching, "Wonderful World of Disney", then, "All In The Family", then throwing the empty box in the trash, (after completly licking the foil liner clean!) I do not eat junk food at all now. Seriously, I eat as healthy as anyone I know. But, bring back pizza spins, and I will gladly buy larger britches!! The 60's - 70's, wonderful innocent times... Glad I lived during this "happy" period. No wonder I used to love to watch, "The 70's show". Remember when they all ate "space dust?" Haha... I discovered a snack distributed by General Mills Sales in a Casey's General Store in Iowa this past week called Totinos Pizza Chips, Pepperoni Flavored. I miss these too. Could never understand why General Mills would drop an excellent snack as Pizza Spins. Probably never had children as taste testers. Or just a bad management decision. I could devour half a box, and a bottle of Frostie Root Beer, after school watching 'Dark Shadows'. With a stern warning from my mother 'don't spoil your appetite for supper'. That never happened, I still ate like a football linebacker. The Pizza Spins were just appetizers before supper. Just recently found a close substitute, Brim's Pizza Flavored Rings from: Brimhall Food Company Inc. P.O. Box 34185 Bartlett, TN. 38184-0185 www.brimsnacks.com They have the texture of Fun-Yum Onion Rings with the pizza flavor, but just not quite intense as the Pizza Spins I remembered. But that was 40 years ago and my recall could be off some about the exact way they were. None the less Brim's Pizza Flavored Rings are certainly better than no substitute. A 4oz. bag is $1.09 at the local small corner store, maybe cheaper elsewhere.

I can't even believe that this many people remember Pizza Spins, and would comment here! They were my favorite ever, hands down. Mom would complain that she'd buy multiple boxes of them on her weekly grocery run, and I'd eat them all up before anybody else could get any. If a box got opened, I wasn't stopping until it was empty. Even kept an old empty (white front) box in my bedroom as a souvenir after they changed the color (green front) and cover photo. Don't know why, but I did. Silly early-teen behavior. Then I kept one of the newer boxes too; then they discontinued them, which almost killed me. Think I was in high school then, or starting college. The wife and I are vegan now, so I don't know if I'd ever eat a reboot of Pizza Spins; GM probably wouldn't make a dairy-free version with fake cheese. But they're a good memory.

Does anyone have a bit of investment capital? We can call them pizza wheels or anything...I suggest very spicy (add dehydrated jalapenos in slivers) very cheesy with a hint of tomato based on oily cornmeal...bake them and sell them by the pound (chips are cheap to make and you can really stand out if you provide serious value)...you have a business partner here. It would take about twenty grand for the art foil packaging and a willing snack producer (Mellos brand?) We can also create a diet chocolate fudge soda like Canfields had. Peter 847 310 5200

"NTY" was a teen-oriented soap opera that starred Tony Dow as the central character. Was on exactly one year, replaced by "Dark Shadows" later, Show was followed by Dick Clark's "Where the Action Is" variety show each afternoon. Pinterest has a magazine ad image for Pizza Spins from 1966. Made by General Mills, Pizza Spins self-competed with Whistles, Bugles and Daisys (spelled that way) snacks.

I loved Pizza Spins and Whistles. When I was a kid my parents would drive from Montreal across the border to Plattsburgh, NY to shop at Grand Union supermarket. We’d buy all kinds of snacks not sold in Canada. General Mills also made Chipos, an earlier type of Pringles, in that these were made from dried potato granules (or something like that) and were flash fried and and had a cross hatched texture. You can see their old ads on YouTube. Like Pizza Spins, Bugles, Whistles, and Daisys, Chipos came in the same cardboard box with foil inside.

Just relaxing in my recliner, enjoying the company of my animals and my husband, watching an episode of Green Acres on Roku and thinking of Pizza Spins.

Pizza spins were my favorite snack in the 70’s. Someone should start a petition to bring these snacks back. Absolutely the best!!!
