I wish they made them again. I could eat a box of them in one sitting! all the flavors were actually good. Who made them? Is the bakery still around at all, making anything? Let's petition them

We loved these cookies...they were round, thin with holes in the middle and had about 4 dozen in a box...they came in many flavors, choc, lemon, macaroon..etc. They were given away on the 'Uncle Al Show' out of Cincinnati, Ohio. If I remember correctly, they were 99 cents per box...LOVED those Mama's Cookies!!!!

I grew up in Hamilton, Ohio, and Mama's Cookies were very popular...we even had them as a snack in my kindergarten class with our little carton of white or chocolate milk!

I grew up eating Mama's cookies in Dallas, Tx. and I'm 57 years old. Last time I bought some was in the early 80s, I think. I sure do miss them.

@Linda ... I lived in Cincinnati until I was 4 and remember both Mama's Cookies and Uncle Al. Was on the show twice with some other little kids in the neighborhood. Why don't they have shows like that anymore? Or Cookies like Mama's anymore?

mama's cookies and uncle al were the hightlight of my life!!! In 1970's. My mother worked at a church in cincinnati sometimes (in the kitchen) and if there were leftover mama's cookies and grape juice from the classes, I got to have some while sitting on a stool in the kitchen watching my mother work. I LOVED mama's cookies.

Can Mama's Cookies still be bought, or are they out of business?

LOVED Mama's cookies in the '70's. Found them once at a grocery in the late '80's, then they disappeared again. Would love to find someone who sells them now...or are they no longer made?

work for a silk-screener in L.A. Ca. we moved into a new warehouse last month and while electricians were doing some rewiring they found a book of financial records dated 1955 and about 15 paper/cellophane wrappers for "mamas home-like cookies". they were together so we're assuming that at one time this building held some sort of function for mamas cookies. Im just searching the web for more info about mamas cookies because the discovery sparked my curiosity but i havent found much.

I remember watching "Uncle Zeb's cartoon camp in Tulsa,Ok in the 1970's they had commercial endorsements for the cookies and DaD's Root Beer. It was a delicious combination . The root beer is still around but have not seen the cookies in years.

I remember living in Silverton with my mom at the ages 3 and 4 (1980-1981), where there was a man that went door to door selling them. My mother always bought me the chocolate cookies in the brown box. I'm not sure what kind she bought for herself, but they came in a green box. If my memory serves me right, there was a smiley face of some sort on all the boxes. These cookies were the best! Especially with juice or milk!

I remember them in the 70's & 80's and their brief return in the 90's. We lived in Cincinnati, OH area. The chocolate ones were to die for. I learned early on that they were the best when dipped in coffee :)

Mamas were the best I grew up with them and when my children were toddlers those were the best snacks for them. I think they had like 5 or 6 flavors and i loved all of them. was wondering if anyone knew who they were made by. maybe if we knew that we could get with that company and suggest they make them again. I am 51 and I know I would still buy them for myself and for my grandchildren.

I grew up on these treasure's!!! I wish they would come back. My Dad worked at channel 9 for soo many years and would bring some home from the Uncle Al show. Remke's once carried them again in the 90's but disappeared shorty after that. He also would bring home boxes of Monster cookies. I miss those days!!!

Mama's cookies were made by Streitman Biscuit Company of Cincinnati, located on Wooster Rd in Fairfax. It then became Keebler. Little flat round cookies with a hole in the middle.

Mamma cookies have so many childhood memories in my family of 11 siblings. Wish I could find just one box to reunite the cookies with the Xmas shows that are on this time of the year.

Actually, Mama's Cookies were not made by Streitman Biscuit Company. They were made by the Shur-Good Biscuit Company, and were discontinued in 1984. Here's a couple of links you might like. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/1997/06/09/smallb1.html http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Shur-Good.Biscuit.Company.513-458-6200

The factory was at 72nd & Kostner behind Ford City Shopping Center in Chicago. Used to go there and purchase a two pound bag of random broken cookies for $1. This would have been early 1970's.

Shur-good Biscuit Company is out of business. they were last located on Chesterdale rd. Cincinnati, Ohio At one time they employed a lot of people and also did the distribution for Archway cookies. I don't know if Archway is still around. How about Barq's soda is that still being made?
BarbaraN - November 06, 2014 - Report this comment
My mom and I loved to eat them, too! Dipped in milk. They were her favorite. I grew up in Northern Kentucky and they were very popular. For S Gleason-Yes. Barq's is still made but they just recently stopped making the Diet Barq's Red Cream Soda, which was my favorite for my whole life and that's a long time!!

I loved Mama's cookies. I don't remember flavors other than plain sugar though. My mom would rotate between buying a package of some brand of round ring butter cookies and Mama's - they were both good, but Mama's were better! I think this memory is more from the 60's for me than later years though. Maybe I'm just older and had them earlier.

These days I find none of the cookies in the grocery store are worth eating. So I searched the cookie aisle yesterday for Mama's, the cookies I remember so well and enjoyed so much for years.I remember having them last in the 1990's when I would serve them to friends with softened cream cheese and tea. Yum, yum! Lemon, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Cocoanut! Why did "they" discontinue such a delicious cookie?

I remember Mama's cookies. I loved the sugar cookie one. I could eat the whole box by myself. I LOVED THOSE COOKIES. They were the best. They are a very pleasant memory from my childhood. Why hasn't there been any response about the recipe or another company making the cookies??? I miss those cookies.

Yep... Mama's was the best cookie brand ever... That's right... even better that Oreo. Nothing could tough it. Growing up on the west side of Cincinnati, I too was a 'star' on the Uncle Al Show back in the 70s... Mama's was their sponsor. I remember Mama's Lemon and Chocolate cookies being a standard in our panty at home. This brings me back!
