Description
These were my absolute favorite cookie. Base of the cookie was german chocolate flavored about the size of a Chip Ahoy, a crunchy cookie not soft with a frosting (glaze) of German chocolate/coconut. Not sure when Keebler discontinued these, but I would love to be able to buy them again.

My favorite cookie growing up too. In the late 70s I wrote Keebler asking if they would please make them again. Received a polite "no".

Finally! I have been searching for information about these cookies to see if anyone else remembered them. They really were good, and different. It was easy for me as a kid to eat a whole bag if I had been allowed...

WOW!!! I'm happy that other folks other than me remember the Keebler German Choclate Iced Cookies. I recall them being in a red colored package. Imagine the weight gain if they would bring them back on the market.

I thought I was the only one who remembered those cookies too. They were the best ever!!! I do wish Keebler would reconsider making those again. They remind me so much of my Grandmother who is now passed away. They were her favorite too!!

They were awesome cookies. Keebler should be so smart to again market them.

I loved these too, and amazingly I don't like German Chocolate cake. Hmmm...maybe if Keebler knew at least six of us would buy them they'd start making them again!

How Bizarre that someone from Abbeville, SC posted about these cookies on the same day I did - I lived in the small town next door ( Calhoun Falls, SC) during my childhood, when these cookies were sold! They always remind me of my aunt who still lives there. Small world.
Chris Cobb - December 09, 2008 - Report this comment
Does this ever bring back memories. I too could have eaten a whole bag if allowed! Wish they would bring them back, asked my siblings if they remember. They remember some cookie called Orbit. I think I remember those also.

I was just telling a co-worker about how much I loved these cookies as a kid. We're of the same age, but she didn't remeber this cookie. I was beginning to think these cookies were a false memory.

Oh My Gosh...I can't believe other ppl. also remember this cookie. Yes it had a red packaging. They were delicious. I can still close my eyes and imaqine the taste of them. I've also looked all over for them. I too actually thought I was imagining this cookie:) Thank Goodness I'm 'sane':)

My sister and I LOVED these. We were just talking about them. I think they would do very well on the market today. I plan on emailing Keebler and telling them people from many places would love to see them make a comeback, or at least see if they would give out the recipe (yes I will post it if they do give it to me!)
Susan - May 05, 2009 - Report this comment
Glad to see that others remember these cookies as fondly as I do. I've never run across a recipe, but I would think it possible to recreate a recipe using cocoa powder (very little, as chocolate is very mild in the cookies), but I'm stumped as to how to achieve the coconut glaze (maybe a confectioners sugar and milk glaze with a little cocoa power and coconut extract?).

I so cant believe there is anyone who remebered thses cookies!!! These were my absolute favorite as well and I honestly still find myself hopefully casting an eye down the cookie aisle at every grocery store I go to...esp. when not at home area far away! If only we could have some of those cookies again...I would soooo pay for them!!! (in money and lbs!!!!)

I found a hopeful recipe to duplicate these wonderful cookes...give it a try! 2 eggs, lightly mixed 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1 box 18 oz. German Chocolate cake mix 1/4 cup flour 1/2-3/4 can 12 oz. to 15 oz. frosting Heat oven to 37oF. In a large bowl combine eggs, oil and cake mix; stir until thoroughly moistened. Shape dough into 1” balls; place 2” apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls to about 1/4” with the bottom of a drinking glass dipped in flour. Bake at 375oF. for 6 to 8 minutes or until edges are just beginning to brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. Frost cookies and let frosting set. Store in tightly covered container. Makes 30 to 36 cookies.

These were the most heavenly cookies I've ever had. I still salivate for them, 40 years after Keebler stopped making them. And why they did that is a mystery to me. No cookie can come close to the incredibly delicious flavor and texture of this masterpiece of a cookie. C'mon Keebler! People want them back! Don't make us beg!

I loved them too! Ironic that they were around in the days when there was no obesity problems. I used to walk to the corner store to buy them for my mum and dad. Maybe the walking was helpful. I'd love to have some again to. I must try the recipe.

I can not believe this, finally people who also wish they would bring these cookies back! They were my favorite cookie. Anyone have a similiar recipe?
MGM - October 19, 2009 - Report this comment
Yea!! Other people who remember the cookie of my childhood dreams! I learned to climb onto the counter to get to these things. I'd climb NOW if it would lead to these cookies. I've noticed recently that Nabisco has reintroduced some "classic" cookies (like the ones you used to find in their "assortment" boxes). I think it's time for Keebler to do this same, with German Chocolate Cookies (sigh) first in line for re-release.

These cookies were great! What was even better was to put them in the refrigerator before eating them. This gave the German Chocolate a change to get firm. Great with a glass of milk. What would it take to get Keebler to start making them again?

OMG!!!! I have been searching for these cookies for years, but I could not remember who made them. I am 45 years old. These cookies were my favorite growing up. I remember when I was in kindergarten, in the early 1970's I used to bring them for my class when it was my turn for cookie day. I will definitely get on the band wagon for Keebler to make them again even if only for a "limited time, special edition"

These were the best cookies ever made.Maybe Keebler should give it some thought and release these on special holidays and see where this might go. I feel really sad as I see the dates on these post and no answer from Keebler. I am wondering if that Vermont Country Store Catalog Store could get them to make them again.
