Description
It was a cereal that came out around 1975. The pieces were shaped like monsters/freaks and each creature had a different name. I remember begging my mom to buy it for me because of the commercial and I wanted to collect the stupid plastic freaks that you could order with box tops.

The cereal debuted in 1973 and was only on the market a couple of years. The plastic figurines were FREE inside the cereal box you didn't have to send away for them. I ate tons of this stuff in late 1974 and finally got all the figures.

I was about 10 when this cereal came out. I went through box after box trying to collect all seven characters. I had multiple duplicates of most of them when--finally--I got Hamhose, completing the set. And yeah, I still remember the song...is that sad or what?!

We are proud owners of a snorkeldorf figurine and magnet - we proudly display both in our home. Snorkeldorf was Mark's favorite character and he lovingly preserved this nostalgia for over 35 years. Ellyce is a relative newcomer to freakies (ie today). She favors Goody-Goody (cause she's pink)

I have the same testimony, Barbara! My brother and I remember the cereal and the song and no one believed us either! "I can not tell a lie, I was cutting down the Frealies Tree" Does anyone remember that commercial? I believe it was on air in '76 in honor of the bicentennial. One of the Freakies was supposed to be "Honest Abe"

I too remember this cereal very well for how long it took me to find all 5 little hard plastic figurines.Not to mention how many boxes it took me to eat to get them. But the most exciting thing happened today, 10-27-09.My Dad is moving after 40 years from my childhood home and low and behold tonight when I was cleaning out some left over hidden treasured toys of mine, there they were!!Green BossMoss, blue snorkledorf, pink GoodyGoody, and 2 others I can't recall. It truly took me back to my fabulous childhood, I'll NEVER get rid of them, EVER!!!!
I was a huge Freakie cereal lover and collected all 7 of the freakie plastic figures..I was 9 years old when the Freakies hit the store shelves..I can still remember the taste of that delicious cereal even to this date..I bet my mother bought dozens of boxes so that I could collect all the 7 different plastic figures and now have 2 sets, one I collected myself and another I had purchased on e-bay for around 50.00 dollars..It was an investment that I will cherish forever..I miss them and wish that they could bring them back.. My favorite was boss Moss he rocked..
I remember Freakies from the late 1970's. Total stoner food. If you had the "munchies" this would cure it.

I still have my complete set of Freakies. In fact, I think they are the oldest stuff I still have from childhood. I have to say though, the cereal itself was pretty awful.
I wish I still had my Freakies magnets. That cereal was the beeesssssst. I will light a candle for Freakies tonight.
Freakies were great - I still have my magnets. Snorkeldorf and Cowmumble were my favorites. Looking forward to the website.
Loved this cereal and the characters.
I hated the taste of the cereal,but I loved the characters.When I was a kid we had a Freakies club in which different kids were given the identity of one of the characters depending on which Freakie you got as a prize in the cereal box (I was Hamhose).However,if you were caught with a box of Norman Cereal,you were banished from the club.

Yep, that's the way I remember it, too. Of course, I am 51 now and that was a really long time ago.
I am 50, have all 7 magnets on my fridge, and have my 6 year old daughter hooked on them and all the commercials on video on the web. Hamhose is her favorite while Snorkeldorf is/was my favorite.
I never ate the cereal, but I loved the commercials. Still do!

I woke up this morning with the line "we never miss a meal, cause we love our cereal" in my head. I had to Google it and found this site. I don't remember ever eating the cereal, and couldn't remember the name. That just proves the power of successful marketing - a 54 year old remembers the lyrics to a commercial jingle. And it is also why the product died after a few years - once the toys were collected and something new was out, kids moved on. I haven't thought of this cereal in quite a while, but for some reason, I found myself humming the tune on my way to work. I'm 51 and ate this stuff back in the day. Kinda like Cap'N Crunch, right? Well, the characters hold a special place in my heart. I found that my mom had kept all the plastic characters, each representing a member of our family. She used to keep them on one of the kitchen windows in the house I grew up in. We found them in her stuff after she passed in 2007. I've got them now.
I can't remember my checking account number but I can remember the Freakies song PERFECTLY.
