My mom would hardly ever buy us junky cereal - only once in a VERY great while did the begging pay off. This was my favorite. I got a box a few years ago (my husband nearly DIED of embarrassment), and it's totally different. The cereal is like a Cheerio that's coated in a shiny glaze and the marshmallows are HUGE. It's so sweet it makes your teeth hurt. Back in the day the marshmallows were tiny (smaller than a pencil eraser) and I remember the cereal being just chocolate-flavored, not coated in goo. I would wager a bet that the 70's version is MUCH healthier than the crap you buy today.

Any cereal entusiast would remember that Count Chocula, Franken Berry, Boo Berry weren't the only cereals of that bunch. There was another one that was very short lived called Fruity Brute and that one featured a kooky werewolf who said"with the flavor of fruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuit".

These are called the "Monster's" cereal..Count chocula (chocolate with marshmallows), Franken-Berry (strawberry with marshmallows), and Boo -Berry (blueberry with marshmallows). They did tried to make a "fruity" flavor Monster cereal two - times; but they didn't last too long, and were pulled-off the shelves. They were called: 1. Fruit Brute ("with the 'Howling' good taste of fruit!"), and 2. Fruity Yummy Mummy ("Fruity Yummy Mummy's so yummy..Cha - Cha - Cha!"). The second fruity Monster(R) cereal didn't come out on the market until sometime in the 80s.

I remember Fruity Brute! I wish they would bring it back! It was good! I loved those cereals and loved it when they came back; especially Boo berry. Now they only sell this cereal around Halloween time. I also miss "Krispy Critters" I don't know if anyone else remembers them.

From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, the debut of Boo Berry, the ghost who breaks up a fight between Frankenberry and Count Chocula by scaring them. This aired during "Curiosity Shop" on ABC (10/16/71). The educational show went into the hows, whys, whos, whats and wheres of different topics, combining animation, puppets and live people. The central character was a kindly witch played by Barbara Minkin. Among the child actors in the series was Pam Ferdin, who played Felix Unger's spoiled daughter, Edna, on "Odd Couple." She also played the younger daughter on the "Paul Lynde Show" (1972). Ferdin also voiced Lucy in a few Charlie Brown/Peanuts specials in the early 1970s.
