Description
This is a rather large lollypop, squarish or rectangle in shape. You sucked on it or bit into it so you could get to the bubble-gum center inside. I remember it mostly from the commercials, which had a magician named Mr. Magico. A kid from the audiance would say: "Mister, I've got a magic lollypop. I can even blow a bubble with it!" To which Mr. Magico would cry: "Impossible! Even Mr. Magico can't blow a bubble with a lollypop!" And then you'd get the whole rigmarole about the lollypop. I remember having it only once, and I think it might've been around in about 1972 or 1973. Cheers!

The commercial was pretty much as described and did air on kids' shows, particularly Saturday morning cartoons, around 1972. The ad opened with an announcer shouting, "It's Mr. Magico!" and the magician in question, in glittery coat with tails and top hat, did tricks with two decks of cards. The boy challenges him that he has a lollipop that can produce a bubble, and he says, "That's impossible..." The boy says, "I'll bet your hat!" The last scene shows the boy eating a Charms Blow Pop and wearing Mr. Magico's hat. The top of the hat opens like a jack-in-the-box, with all the flavors of Blow Pops popping up. The announcer mentions the product again and says it's the lollipop that blows bubbles, just like magic.

I swear there was a commercial in the 70’s for Charms Big Pops with a jingle that went “chocolate, coconut, crunchy, marshmallow, minty, munchie” and at the end sang “Charms Big Pops, they last so long” Does anyone else remember this jingle? I think it aired mid-70’s

The Charm's Big Pop commercial aired on several Saturday cartoon shows. Most notably, "Krofft Super Show" on ABC (10/3/76). The gum and candy were about 20% larger than the original. Despite the heavy promos, Big Pops weren't big sellers, and discontinued by 1978. This was roughly ten years before Tootsie Roll bought the original Charm's company
