I know my older brother used to say this gum smelled like a womans Va-jay-jay. I kept think how does he know that and better yet why does he know that? Now its all very clear to me and it does!

I was a main character, with my horse & Queensland Healer Dog in a western-type Big Red chewing gum commercial filmed in AZ in the late 70's (76,77) Is there any way I can get a copy of that commercial? Some of my family never saw it...and MY own family only had a black & white TV at the time. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks!

To James Shepard, My father was the voice of Big Red Chewing Gum in the 70's for the very same commercial spots you are referring to. He has the deep voice saying "Big Red" in the commercial spot.

Found a Big Red radio commercial within an aircheck from WLS in Chicago from December, 1979. This marked DJ John Landecker's last evening show, also his last featured "Boogie Checks," in which listeners called in to sound off and shout out, without a call screener, but with a 7-second delay to thwart any nasty words from being aired. Landecker moved to the afternoon shift as 1980 began, replacing Bob Sirott, who moved to television. Brant Miller became the new evening jock at the Big 89. The Big Red commercial was an audio duplicate of the TV spot.

On the Chicago Scene. At the Volo (Illinois) Antique Mall, found a copy of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES from 1980. Wrigley's Big Red was still advertised as new, though a couple years in production. My favorite SUN TIMES columnist was Gary Deeb, the TV-radio critic. Many considered him the Howard Cosell of the newspaper industry. He trashed personalities and shows on TV, radio and movies he didn't like, while expressing restrained praise to those he liked. Deeb worked at the TRIBUNE (1973-78) and the SUN-TIMES (until 1983) then moved to television and WLS, Ch. 7, where he was told to restrain his commentary, which apparently rubbed him the wrong way. Deeb was gone by 1986, leaving Chicago for Ohio. In his newspaper columns, Deeb pulled no punches, and called it as he saw it. Very transparent, very daring. A great columnist.
