I was thinking about Astro Pops the other day, actually (they were yellow, red, and green, and cone-shaped, by the way). I was thinking, 'Who was the cullinary genius who thought up this dangerous confection for children?'! Remember how when you sucked on them for very long the tip of the cone became as sharp as a weapon? Imagine a kid running with one in his mouth...wow, that could be a real disaster. In defense of the candy, though, it really did taste pretty good, didn't it? It had kind of a pineapple taste to it.

I remember these, I recall I didn't like them much.

I have to laugh at this. I was browsing through these and when I saw Astro Pop, I thought oh wow, I remember sucking on this thing until it formed like a mini lance. Frequently you would be careless in your licking and actually pierce your tongue or roof of your mouth. So good and colorful with that translucent effect. Being a kid in the 70s wasnt so bad.

I remeber these, they were pretty good but they would stick to your teeth if you tried to S-L-O-W-L-Y bite into them. My cousin loved these things.

We used to buy these things at the little mom-and-pop store about a half-mile from our house. Getting to walk there was a huge treat and .25 would buy enough candy to last a whole day. @Boo - Sometimes I wonder how any of us survived the '60s and '70s!

My siblings and I loved those things.... we're having a 70's party for my sister-in-law in February, and I was hoping to find some for the party. Guess that's not going to happen.... Any ideas for some retro party favors?

I remember these too! I think I bought maybe one of them b/c of the shape. I don't really remember buying one twice. As a kid, I was fortunate enough to have a store right up the street and that's where we all hung out back in the day. Our neighbors, two ole bachelors, that lived behind us owned it.

These were basically just hardened corn syrup. I had braces as a kid and when I was about 13 I had an Astro Pop and slowly sunk my molars into it as described by Adrian. When I tried to open my teeth it tore the rear anchor band for my braces from both my top and bottom teeth. An emergency trip to the orthodontist was required and they had to replace the bands and wires. Talk about dangerous!

Actually, the hard candy comes in three flavors: red - cherry, yellow - lemon, green - lime.

This is one of the main products that I came here to search for.I couldn't remember the name but this description fits perfectly. For me, these were often stocking stuffers at Christmastime. They were kind of similar to those barley sugar lollipops shaped like toys(also popular at Christmas)Thanx for boosting my slowly failing memory!

Remember the wax at the bottom? We used to dip astro pops in orange soda. I think we thought we were some sort of confectionary geniuses!

As much as I know, this candy is still on the market; and you can buy them at Dollar stores, plus the store called "Five and Below". ( ^_^ )
