Description
The precursor to Ultra Slim Fast and other diet shakes proved again that saccharine and chocolate don't mix. It's greatest claim to fame that it sponsored Rate-a-Record on "American Bandstand".

The chocolate flavor was very good if you blended it with a banana.

They still sell this stuff in stores, at least in Washington state.

It's called Alba Fit & Frosty now and they have it in the diet section in supermarkets. No clue what the '77 stood for. They also used to have a warm version called Alba '66. My grandmother used to drink Alba '77 back in the early 80's and I loved it! It was soooooo foamy!

I remember this. It tasted like fake chocolate, chalk and sand mixed with powdered milk. Yummmmmmmm!

I used Alba 77 when I was younger to loose weight. It was delicous mixed with ice in a blender. Better than a real shake and curbed your appetite. I used it for a snack also because it was a real pick-me-up.

I remember Alba 77 as being almost impossible to mix with any type of liquid. And it was a poor excuse for a milkshake. That's just as well because it was for my Mom's diet. But sometimes I was desperate enough to make one.

What a blast from the past! I liked the Alba shakes but they definitely needed to be made in a blender with ice. I remember the shake being thick but light. Foamy is a great description!

I made these every morning at work (QA Lab @ Vlasic Pickles in Industry, CA) and I would use one of the many blenders we had at our disposal. It was very good and if I let the blender go long enought it was very light and foamy! I miss it (and Jello 1-2-3)

Used to drink Alba 77 all the time! The 77 stood for the amount of calories in the drink. Haven't seen it in many years.

About a year ago, I purchased 10 boxes of Alba 66 milk shakes for about $5.95 per box. Today, I wanted to place another order and I am shocked to find that they are all over $30.00 per box! I cannot believe that this price has inflated this much over the past year. I don't care what gasoline costs. There is no excuse for it! If you google Alba 66, you can find all kinds of sites that sell it now, including amazon. But this inflated price makes it out of my reach. :(

Back in 1976-77 I was on the Conway Diet and lost 30lbs in like 3 months - not kidding. I was young then...too...and it was a 1000 cal a day diet. I drank Alba every morning for bkfst. Hated it, but it worked. Unfortunately, at 55, those 30lbs found me again

I love these Alba Shakes. But please tell me why in just a few years the price has skyrocketed?

I alway think of that Swedish band ABBA who were popular around that time and were just as saccharine in musical quality as Alba was the taste department.
