When it was popular:
Description: These were shoes. Sandals to be exact. They came in different size platforms, but all looked the same. They came in different shades of tan and beige. The top of the shoes were a criss cross of leather across the top of your foot and a regular buckle around your ankle like normal sandals. Good ones were made of leather, but we wore whatever we could get our hands on.

I loved water buffalo sandals you would get them wet and they would mould to your foot. They where so comfortable. Mine where flat just like the picture. I had them in the 70's

When my sisters and I would get a new pair, we'd fill up the bath tub, grab a popsicle and sit on the edge of the tub and soak in our sandals til out popsicles were gone.

Wondering why we called the sandals " water buffaloes"? where did the name come from?

I wore these sandals all through jr. high and high school. I graduated in 1973. I didn't see them much after that. I miss my water buffalo sandals. They were made out of water buffalo leather (supposedly), hence the name.
