i had a pair of gloria vanderbuilts in the early 80's in high school-they were a size 5 but i was a 7 (thats how you did it in the late 70's-early 80's) they were a lite pink/salmon color and looked like skin on me and i got alot of crude comments the day i wore them and they were taking group shots for the yearbook-in all the pictures i looked kinda sad because of some of those comments. i would kill my grandmother just to look like that again-i still kept the pants for posterity but probably couldnt get my foot into them now.

i wish they still made them. they fit like the old levis with the big pockets. i bought them at Hills along with Jordache and Organically Grown jeans. No one seems to remember Organically Grown

They actually were kind of expensive then. They were the first true designer jean. I don't remember them stretching much they were 100% cotton back then. Now they are for fat women and are in stretchy denim.

There jeans are not just for fat women like the above person stated. Which I find that comment offensive. I bought a pair of the Tamara jeans perfect fit size 6 and I just love them. Can't find another pair. Found this site by looking for somewhere that might sell them.

Donna I am with you there. Just back in UK from vacation in USA and bought Tamara's. They are the best jeans I have ever bought and I am a 6 too! Where can I buy them in the USA?

Just bought a pair of Tamara jeans, size 6 at Bealls. It was the only pair they had. Perfect fit. Thought I would come home and buy more on line but alas, I can't find them anywhere. They are the best for my body shape ( skinny thighs).

Loved my Vanderbilt Jeans. Only "designer" jeans I ever had. I think they were $50 in 1980, so my girlfriend and I split the cost, and took turns wearing them. They were like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, we were very differently shaped, but they had enough stretch that we both looked great in them. Size 6, who wouldn't. I'd also kill crazy amys grandma to be able to fit into them again LOL.

When the designer jeans craze hit in my Dallas suburb in 1978, Gloria Vanderbilt was one of the preferred brands, less cool than Calvin Klein (the highest status name), more cool than Britannia and Chic. These were all narrow-leg (cigarette leg, they called it then) jeans meant to be worn brand new-looking, with the denim a dark blue, very unlike the naturally faded denim popular earlier in the decade in flared jeans. Where I lived, it was popular to wear them rolled up to the top of the ankle to show off high-heeled sandals or Candie's slides.
