Description: Those cool looking "Sav-on" thongs that were usually in shades of blue, and were sort of layered different shades of blue, with the black rubbery bottoms and the velvety thong straps, still popular today.

Yes. These were extremely popular in the late 1970s, especially with the surfer crowd in California. The straps were of a somewhat wide, soft, flat woven nylon, with a narrower strip of suede sewn on top.
I had a pair that had a blue wide strap and multi layered sole, these thongs were comfortable and very durable.
I still have a pair as well. I bought ones that started dark on the top of the sole, and went to light on the bottom. Most I saw were blue, but I have seen brown ones.
