The best clogs were expensive. I remember paying $65.00 for a pair of European clogs in size 36. Mine were full-shoe clogs (they had backs on them rather than open or straps). I had them in gray, navy, brown and a bright tan. My friends called my tan clogs my "duck shoes". I loved wearing them with my Levi cords and my tight ski-style turtlenecks and my ski sweaters.

The clogs with the brass thing nailed to the front of them. They were so heavy. In an attempt to get her clogs out of the way, my friend opened the door to the basement, threw her clogs down the steps and shut the door, only to hear her dad cussing. He was walking by at the precise moment the 50lb. clogs were sailing down the steps and hit him on the side of the head. Ahhhh, the memories.

I begged my mom for clogs and she would never buy them for me. I finally saved my money and bought a pair. She kept hiding them and tried to throw them away several times I don't know why she hated them so. Now most of my shoes are sort of like clogs or mules. She laughs she said I never got over her not buying the clogs!

I bought mine from the shoe store - Thom McCann. In my family, we got 2 pairs of shoes a year, but I made sure I got what all the kids were wearing.

I was allowed a new pair every spring which I wore with almost anything all summer mostly with bare feet. Remember how exciting it was to go shopping for them having to choose the colour of the year. Being european they were the kind H. Stowe describes above. Remdember that the mother of the girl next door would not let me into their house on my bare feet straight out of the clogs. Well, we soon found others to play, poor girl she was an only child.

Forgot to tell you that my best pair were red with green flashes on them and thick, soft rubber soles underneath. I had to beg my mother for them but they were well worth it I looooooved them.

Not many people wear real clogs these days but this website has a huge assortment of different styles. http://www.e-sko.dk/leverandor_detail.asp?levid=22&mid=120 Do not know if they ship outside of Europe though.

I graduated highschool in 1983 I still have my clogs Anatomy and MIA clogs. I still have my Zodiac leather boots that I wore in higschool over twenty six years with big long flare skirts and the layered looks. The good old days are missing when things fit.

I got my first pair of Bastad clogs in the late 70's and have never looked back. I get strange looks from some men but only positive comments from women. I just wish that clogs would come back into style like they were in ths 70's.

I borrowed my first pair from the cute neighbor girl who wore them to mow the grass. They looked so sexy on her feet. They had 4" heels and a 1" platform. I asked her if I could try them on and she said that I could keep them if i wanted to. That started my obsession with clogs. I still have her clogs and wear them. She became my first girlfriend and loved to see me wearing her clogs when we went mudding together.

I had several pairs...the real ones...wood soles and small heels. They has little air holes in the leather on top. I wore my white pair when I worked in a hospital - those and my good ole Dr Scholls! I was called the noisy girl with the clogs as they made quite a racket up down hospital corriders!

I love wearing clogs as a guy. I think they look cool on guys. I wear only the original clogs from the 70's and 80's- always san socks. Wish they would make today's clogs with better quality!!!

Started wearing wood/leather clogs in high school in the late 70s.Not very many guys wore clogs, mostly the girls. Loved the clopping sound echoing in the school hallways! Always wear clogs with bare feet, it just feels so good. Love love love clogs, even today.

Oh wow, I just loved clogs in the late 70s and early 80s. As a guy I had fewer choices but still owned quite a few pairs. I loved the hardness of the wood--anything in my path was just crushed flat. I also liked the tread. It seems small in these days of deep boot treads but it was quite aggressive in its day. It was so hot to just step on something casually an mash it, walking on after leaving my clog tread print in it and tracking it after me. Then Mia brought out lug soled clogs and those were like clogs on steroids. Still the unyielding wooden sole but deep boot tread under it. I finally got a pair of sandal clogs with lug soles and I was invincible. I walked in everything on the floor in the cafeteria and enjoyed it all. From grapes to entire dropped meals, my clogs would just crush it and I would walk away as if nothing happened. Later I would prop my feet up or cross my legs and show off what I had done. I also walked in dirt and mud without a care. My friends would actually ask me to walk on things because they wanted to see what the lugs and wood soles could do. I always did it, no matter where we were--school, the movies, the mall. Once I was at a picnic and I stepped on a ton of things in the yard. Grapes, cups, baked beans, hamburgers and rolls, macaroni salad. If someone dropped it I would step on it sooner or later. I really enjoyed it if I could stand on it while I talked to someone. I did it a few times that day, and only one person looked down when they heard the squish noise. It wasn't someone who know what i liked to do underfoot so they just tried to ignore it as I shiften my foot as we talked. I even looked down at it, lifted my clog to see what it was and then kept standing on it to let them know I knew I had crushed something. One of my friends came over to ask about what I was standing on. He enjoyed letting others know what I did. I had to tell him it was the main part of a burger, with bun and toppings. He asked me if I had felt it and I had to say I did, but just barely, that the combination of the hard soles and deep treads didn't give much feel of what I walked on. When I left that party I walked across a big wet spot on the patio, then into the house and out the front door. The water got everything in my clog treads wet so when I walked through the kitchen and living room I left really noticeable tracks from all the food and mud I had walked on. I looked behind me, of course--I always did and saw the clear tracks of my clogs, so I got out fast. Later one of my friends said the parents were really mad about the tracks, but that they had no idea who had done it. Others were wearing clogs that day, and my pair had a smaller heel print than most, as they were a slightly high heel, so the parents thought it was a girl that did it. If anyone wants more clog stories please ask in here and I will try to oblige.
