These were very popular in the mid-1970s to embroider with flowers and more. Buying a denim work-shirt and doing a custom embroidery job on if made a great gift for you boyfriend. It sort-of "marked" your territory!
I still own one!!!
There is an old "After School Special" form the 1979 called the "Summer of the Swans". I found at the library. One of the teens wears a blue work shirt with a prison number on the back and pocket. Was that Popular? Anyone remember!
I love those things
They tended to be more fitted and have more yoke detail on them than the Dickies ones popular since the 1990s. And, yeah, doing your own embroidery on them was really popular in the first half of the 70s. We embroidered our own in art class in elementary school and thought it was really cool. And this was before rainbows and unicorns were widely made fun of, so lots of people wanted rainbows, unicorns, butterflies, and sunbursts on theirs.
